What Is Image Masking? Why Do You Need It?
Image masking is a process of graphics software like Photoshop to hide some portions of an image and to discover some portions. It is a non-destructive process of image editing. Most of the time it enables you to adjust and pinch the mask later if necessary. Very often, it is an efficient and more creative way of image manipulation services.
TYPES OF IMAGE MASKING
There are three types of masking in Photoshop
1. Layer Masking
The layer mask is the type of mask that has to deal with Photoshop. We can conceal or reveal portions of the images or we can manipulate different portions of an image with the use of masking. If we switch the opaqueness of a layer from the panels opacity slider, then the opacity of the entire Photo will be changed. Transparency masking- With the layer mask applied, we can change the clarity of the layer. We can make any section totally invisible or a little bit circumpolar. If we apply a black picture on a mask that section will be absolutely transparent. Meaning that it will be visible from below. The photo will be a little bit visible If we apply grayscale, depending on the percentage of gray we select for the brush. If we go for a soft brush, it means the edge transmutation will be smoother.
2. Clipping Mask
By using clipping masks in Photoshop, you can quickly and easily create interesting effects. A clipping mask does exactly what it suggests. A clipping mask allows for masking effects, such as an image showing through with text. A clipping mask is complete by using two layers in a photoshop document. The bottommost layer of the two acts as the masking agent. Masking personal effects do not have to be limited to just text. You can be creative and apply them to any shape or another effect just as easily.
3.Alpha Channel Masking
Every image has different attributes for cutting out operations like removing the background. So different methods are needed to be applied. Different images require different approaches. Alpha channel masking is a bit analyzable way of doing masking. The above two types of masking are fair simple. But when we need to mask out the hair and furry areas, it gets very difficult and time-consuming to select those areas with just the brush strokes. If the object and the background has a sufficient amount of comparison, alpha channel masking technique will be easier to apply.
